Two Harbor Beach spellers came home victorious after competing in the Knights of Columbus regional spelling bee in Hemlock on January 17! Hannah Emerick is pictured on the left with her first-place trophy from the Level II competition (grades 7-9). Emerick is a seventh-grader at Harbor Beach Community School. She is the daughter of Bill and Jennifer Emerick.
Allison Stein, pictured on the right, claimed the second-place trophy in the Level II competition (grades 7-9). Allison is the daughter of David and Janis Stein and is a ninth-grader at Harbor Beach Community School. The pair spelled through the list and made it to the dictionary; they spelled a combined total of 178 words just against each other!
Griffin Emerick, son of Bill and Jennifer Emerick and an eighth-grader at Harbor Beach Community School, placed third. The students represented their school as well as Knights of Columbus Council 11432.
Hannah Emerick and Allison Stein now advance to the Knights of Columbus state spelling bee, which will take place in March in Essexville. Congratulations to all for their hard work and determination!
